Twenty-four states added construction jobs in April, according to Associated General Contractors of America. Thirty-two states and Washington, D.C., added construction jobs during the past year.
鈥淐onstruction employment continued to expand in many parts of the country, but uncertainties about the impacts of tariffs and the direction of the economy appear to be affecting hiring in many other places,鈥 said Macrina Wilkins, AGC鈥檚 senior research analyst. 鈥淚t is too early to tell, however, whether this is just a bump in the road or the start of a more troubling trend.鈥
California added the most construction jobs from March to April鈥6,300鈥攁nd Virginia had the largest percentage increase of construction jobs for the month鈥1.9%. During the past 12 months, Texas added the most construction jobs鈥32,000鈥攁nd New Mexico had the largest percentage increase鈥14.6%.
Washington lost the largest number of construction jobs (-3,300) for the month and Alaska had the largest percentage decline (-3.1%). During the past 12 months, Washington lost the most construction jobs (-15,000) and Washington had the largest percentage decline (-6.6%).
