Twenty-two states added construction jobs in July, according to Associated General Contractors of America. Thirty-one states and Washington, D.C., added construction jobs during the past year.
鈥淭he number of states with construction job gains continues to slip, on both a monthly and a year-over-year basis,鈥 said Ken Simonson, AGC鈥檚 chief economist. 鈥淥wners have delayed project starts in the face of ever-changing tariff, funding and labor force policies, while contractors are experiencing sudden losses of workers.鈥
Colorado added the most construction jobs from June to July鈥3,800鈥攁nd Oregon had the largest percentage increase of construction jobs for the month鈥2.6%. During the past 12 months, Texas added the most construction jobs鈥27,000鈥攁nd New Mexico had the largest percentage increase鈥14.3%.
California lost the largest number of construction jobs (-3,300) for the month and Wyoming had the largest percentage decline (-3.4%). During the past 12 months, California lost the most construction jobs (-18,200) and New Jersey had the largest percentage decline (-4.9%).
